Professional Practices in Photography (P-3) is a new certificate program by the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) that supports photographic artists who are building sustainable careers. All sessions will take place virtually over 16 weeks, on Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM EST, June 30 – October 13, 2021.
P-3’s inaugural program is free and limited to 12 participants. Applicants must reside in the greater Philadelphia metro area. Selection is based on merit and need. P-3 is designed for photographers who are developing their career outside academia and with limited institutional support. PPAC recognizes the critical importance of business and career skills for emerging artists. We continue to develop opportunities for learning that prioritize access and excellence.
P-3 will be led by artist and curator Efrem Zelony-Mindell. The 16-week syllabus encompasses both general business skills and those specific to the business of photography, while helping each artist craft an individualized career and business plan. The Covid 19 pandemic has further highlighted the importance of professional skills for the working artist in a disrupted and unstable economic landscape. P-3 participants will learn a flexible, adaptive approach to their practice that can adjust to market interruptions.
P-3 participants will learn from successful artists including David Hartt, Julianna Foster, Shawn Theodore, Caroline Tompkins, and Jessica Pettway. Participants will study and practice a host of skills including financial reporting, social media strategies and skills, developing an online presence, networking and public relations, building a visual brand, looking for studio space, and copyright and photo licensing.
P-3 will meet on Wednesday evenings for 16 consecutive weeks.
June 30th – October 13th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM EST
Attendance is required for all 16 sessions.
To apply, please fill out the online application by June 14, 2021. Successful applicants will be notified by June 18, 2021. Please contact Josh Brilliant at email@example.com if you have any questions.
