Thursday Night Photo Talk w/ Julianna Foster

Geographical Lore

Thursday, February 25, 2021
7 PM EST

Julianna Foster will present her series, Geographical Lore, a selection of photographic work that considers ways in which the natural world can be represented. The images are captured from landscapes where she has traveled across the United States.

The series consists of a combination of two-dimensional images like framed photographs, broadsides, light-boxes and three-dimensional objects such as cut and manipulated photographs and artist books/publications. They combine photographic images of both the natural world and hand-made, assembled environments.  The deliberate blend of the fabricated and the “real” image play with ideas of memory and representation.

Nadia Hironaka, an award winning visual artist and filmmaker, will present a brief introduction to Julianna Foster's work. Hironaka is based in Philadelphia and is known for her collaborations with Matthew Suib making films, videos, public artworks and immersive installations spanning over a decade, often extending their collaboration to include other artists, musicians and composers.
