How can we correct our imagination of the photographic canon to see non-white photographic practices not as counternarratives, but to see them as initiatives and approaches which have higher purposes outside of confronting white hegemony? Through this course students will take steps to change or reinforce perceptions of what the photographic canon is and to re-center the artists, aesthetics, and concepts that it includes. Through readings, class discussions, presentations, and creative workshops students will create their own physical of digital resource for themselves and their community to help communicate a photographic canon based on inclusivity and criticality.
